School Competition Winners: Newton on Trent
We've always been proud of the fact that at The Original Tour we entertain everyone from the smallest children to the oldest grandparents! And we've done this for the last 65 years! We are even more proud of the fact that, we are supporting the education and amusement of children through our fun & engaging Kids Club commentary. Available on the Red and the Blue tour routes, our younger travellers get to meet the heroes and villains of London's great history...and keep an ear out for the one of the many ghosts that litter the city's past. Ooooh!
To celebrate our 65th year of operating, we decided to run a competition earlier this year to bring one special primary school class out of the classroom and into London - to support their lessons about the city's history and really help bring it to life. The winning class would experience a private hire panoramic bus tour of London, with 360 degree views from the top deck and a tour route including London's top attractions, historic monuments and buildings.
We asked schools around the country to create a piece of artwork that demonstrated their love of the city; whether it was a favourite building, event or whatever London represented to them. We received entries from schools all over the country, including these amazing artworks:
After scrutinising the numerous entries and choosing our shortlist, we left it to the schools themselves to drum up the support they needed to win the competition. Liking The Original Tour on Facebook & Twitter counted as one vote and after 13 days and some fierce competition amongst parents and teachers, the winner was revealed as Newton on Trent CofE Primary School with this below as their winning entry! (see below)
Class KS2 'Team Cheetah' decided that a July bus tour would finish off the school term nicely and travelled down from Lincolnshire for the day. We met the group at Victoria, our private hire departure point, on the day of the tour to find the group very excited about their trip around London! The Red Tour route takes you past all of London's top attractions including the Houses of Parliament & Big Ben, the Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral and Piccadilly Circus.
As well as being a magical, once in a lifetime experience, for groups of 25+, taking a private hire tour of London in an open-top bus can work out as surprisingly good value for money. With three daily departure times from Grosvenor Gardens, Victoria (11am, 1.30pm & 4pm) click here for more information on this option - perfect for your school class, cultural group or even a unique way to celebrate a special birthday or family event!
